Environmental Policy

As part of its long history as a socially responsible company, Xerox Corporation is committed to the protection of the environment in the way we design, manufacture, procure, market, distribute, maintain, reuse/recycle, and dispose of products and related services. All Xerox business operations and products are, at a minimum, in full compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements, and meet Xerox's high environmental standards.

That commitment includes our compliance with the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive or RoHS, which became effective on July 1, 2006. The new RoHS, directive restricts the use of certain materials - lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and bromine-containing flame retardants: PBB (polybrominated biphenyls) and PBDE (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) - in electrical and electronic products.

Xerox is a pioneer in designing and building what we call 'waste-free products.' Each new generation of Xerox products is designed to offer increasing functionality while conserving energy and materials and requiring fewer hazardous substances throughout the product life cycle. Each year Xerox diverts well over 65 million kilograms from landfills by developing products and parts that are reused or recycled back into manufacturing at the end of their initial life cycles.

Xerox's heritage in recycling and reusing appropriate products and components will continue to support the move toward Xerox's goals: waste-free products, a waste-free work environment, and sustainable printing practices.
